Unfortunately, I'm serious.

And the statehouse in Columbia still has the deep pock marks from General Sherman's cannon fire, untouched with no attempt to repair the exterior walls since the battle there. It's seen by many of the locals as a "badge of honor." Repair would be heresy. AFAIK they still fly the "Confederate Navy Jack" third on their halyard (Stars and Bars; the official Confederate colors were different). U.S. colors are on top and the S.C. state colors are second (original state flag without any Confderacy elements). _Don't_ mention General William T. Sherman's or General Philip Sheridan's names there. They're considered "fighting words." Grant's name is almost as bad.

BTW, there's still folks in western Pennsylvania who haven't forgotten the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 (sparked by an excise tax on whiskey which effectively taxed the [then] frontier west much more than the east coast).

(Shay's Rebellion in Massachusetts, 1786-7, is all but forgotten.)
