I would call then up and explain that I was not wanting to question their 
policy or tell them how to run their business, but wondered if they might be 
willing to make an exception to their inflexible policy in this particular 
case.  I would then make the proposal several others have suggested as it 
related to your keeping the lens rather than sending it back.  You might 
suggest they send you the lens you paid for with prepaid postage for the 
return of the lens they sent in error.  Bill Barber
