So with the body cap off, the mirror goes up, shutter stays open. The
ability to wind it while the shutter is open is normal. Is it doing this
in manual position also? Still sounds like the asa circuit. Usually, the
ceramic has a hairline crack in it, so the camera sees it as an extremely
low asa, so the shutter stays open.
The red glow force feeds the sbc so the shutter will not stay open when the
shutter is fired on "off" position with the lens cap on.

| Hi John,
|
| Just put the batteries back in. No, I can wind and fire shutter all the
| while as the mirror is up. And I just noticed that with the mode switch
in
| the "Off" position, and only in the "Off" position, there is a steady red
| light coming from the CDS cell on the right side (looking at lensmount
from
| the front). That red glow disappears if I switch to either "Manual" or
| "Auto".
|
| As soon as I took the batteries out, mirror plopped back down.
