[OM] Winder 1 film end stop problem

Subject: [OM] Winder 1 film end stop problem

I recently used for the first time my Winder 1
(purchased used) with my OM1 MD. At the end of the
film (last exposure), I continued to press the winder
shutter release, not realizing I had reached the end
of the roll. (easy to do in the heat of wild game
shoot on an African safari). The winder continued to
fire and advance, advancing the film off the end of
the film can. I lost the several shots that were
multiple exposures on the last frame, but was able to
salvage the roll in a dark room. But my question is,
according to the manual, there is supposed to be a
"Solid-state circuit for automatic film wind stop
after last exposure". Is there something wrong with
my winder or camera, or is the manual misleading me?
How is the auto film wind stop supposed to work? I
have reconfirmed with a test roll of film that there
is no auto stop at the last exposure. Thanks in
advace for any advice.
