I have two times experience in dropping my OM4 (my most reliable and
favorable camera which is in 6+ cosmetic condition), the first one was
last year during a portrait session, it was equipped with a 180/2.8
and MD-1. My friend was very interested on the setup and the bright
viewfinder (installed with a Minolta Acute Matte screen) I let him
have a look. When he pass it back to me, I hold only the lens and
un-fortunately I was pressing the lens release, the body and MD-1 got
a 90 deg rotate and dropped to the ground at around three feet.
Finally the bottom of the Ni-cd pack 1 was dent and the body added
some slight marks. Other than that both were still working fine.
The second drop was last month on a trip to Gulin, when I was kneeling
on a river bank and changing lens, my friend was going to pass
through, due to the narrow river bank I have to stand up and move a
bit. But my OM-4 was resting between my legs, when I tried to stand
up, the body dropped down the river, fortunately the water level was
not so high and the OM-4 was resting on some dry rocks. Again it
survived the over four feet drop on hard rocks and I was still using
it for the rest of my trip without any problem. This time the cover of
the winding level was damaged and I had it replaced for only US$2.5.
