It absolutely immaculate, not a speck! The leather case is immaculate inside
and out
too. As far as ethetics go, you should have this one Oben! Its poifect.

As far as optics go, heres what I've got so far:

Paul Schings suggested that the camera dioptric should be at the "standard"
setting, if the Varimagni dioptric is to be the same for 1.2x and 2.5x
magnification. Fortunately, I have an OM2n, with presumably "standard"
non-adjustable dioptric setting. So I put my varimagni on it, and lo and
behold, the varimagni dioptric doesn't need to be adjusted when
changing power! So the, leaving the varimagni as it was on the OM2n,
I put it on my OM4T, and adjusted the dioptric setting for maximum
clarity of the screen, and sure enough that fixes my problem on the
OM4T, and I presum on my OM4 as well.

BTW, I assume the "standard" dioptric setting is 0 diopters, on the OM2n.
Does anyone know definitively how many clicks of the diopter adjustment
from one extreme is 0 diopters on the OM4/OM4T? I get 7 clockwise clicks
to match my visual transfer of the OM2n setting via the varimagni to
the OM4T. There has to be a more scientific method than that!

So looking INTO the varimagni, I find that at high magnification,
the magnified image is not centered around the focusing screen
central circle. Instead it is displaced a little vertically and a little
to horizontally, so that my focusing screen circle (Beatty), appears
just within the lower left quadrant of the image. I can center the
image vertically, by adjusting the magnification lever a little.
In fact I can scan the entire verical span of the viewfinder by
doing this. (Could be useful, eh?) However I can't affect the horizontal
position of the image in any way.

Interestingly, it is the 2.5x image that is not centered, although by
inspection, it is the 1.2x objective lens aperture that appears
considerably displaced horizontally when seen from the outside.

So, I am thinking I have a faulty varimagni, with probably a
manufacturing defect. Maybe this unit was in a store, and staff
or customer noticed the fault, and somehow it got onto Ebay
as a result.

I think it probably can be fixed with a little adjustment by a
qualified technician. Do you OM listees think I have a case to
go to the vendor for an adjustment?
