Is it marked G-Zuiko? Does it have a chrome front ring? If not, it's probably MC.

FYI, we've never had much luck decyphering OM-System serial numbers and relating them to production dates or equipment characteristics; especially for lenses. It would have been nice if Olympus would have followed a regimented scheme for serial numbers vs. production records, vs. other characteristics; but they didn't. The Germans are MUCH more anal about such things, for what it's worth. That makes dating Leica equipment very easy, given the excrusiatingly-detailed records that they've always kept re: models, production batches, etc.

OK, I'm out on a limb here, but IMHO, in general, you shouldn't expect appreciably better pictures nor should you pay significantly more for a MC lens. Use the SC versions, they are great products and image makers.

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me whether a 21mm f/3.5 not with
serial number 107980 not marked MC is likely to be multicoated or not.
Thanks.
