Happily, none of us were hurt . . . . although this kind of behavior has
rightly earned Americans a bad reputation in foreign countries :^)

As mentioned, the Canadian side of the Horseshoe falls gives the best
view.  There's a spot right by the info. bldg. where you can get right
up next to the precipice if it isn't too crowded.  It's a breathtaking
experience being just a few feet away from the edge. . . totally silent,
as all the noise is made at the bottom.  I've got a slide taken with my
100/2.8 that I'll post when I find it.

You can get over to Ontario on the Peace Bridge in Buffalo.  From the
bridge, look left, and you'll see Lake Erie drop away into the Niagara
River like a gigantic bathtub overflowing.  The river between there and
the Falls isn't very wide, but the water flow is staggering. . . .
nothing winding or lazy about it.

At the falls, the water has been diverted for hydro to the extent that
if the river were allowed to run wild, it would come over the falls *ten
feet* deeper than it does now!
