Somehow I knew this would happen :-)
At least you two are talking about the same manufacturer...but it's only
been 5 minutes since I sent my original post! Wait, I don't seen PAN-X at
B&H. Are Plus-X and PAN-X the same? ....oh, more replies....Plus-X it is!

>From Dave:
<<<I concur re the Tri-X. Make sure it's souped in D76 1:1...>>>
D76 1:1? Whatever that means. I'll deal with that when I get back!

This stuff needs to be refrigerated, yes?
Fortunately for you, of all films, these b&w films need it the least. (As a
sidelight, refer to Photo Techniques an issue or two ago, where Ctein tests
various films' reaction to hot storage. It would seem we're all taking
excessive precautions.)

WOW! Now here's some real controversy, for a change. First, Panatomic-X is
discontinued. I use mainly Plus-x in my industrial work. It's got a great
tonal range, will handle most any situation, a very forgiving film. I'm
currently having it souped in a dip and dunk machine in Kodak Xtol to good
results. I did get some Ilford FP4 at a really good price, about a year's
supply, and it was good, but not as good as Plus-X. In d&d Xtol, it should
be rated around 200, perhaps even 320 in some situations. This experience in
with 120 film.

Tri-X is a good film in large format, but I don't really like it in 35mm.

Really, for this use, I would like to use Agfa APX25, but it too is
discontinued. I will probably try APX100 at some time in the future. Of
course, Fuji Acros is the wild card until it is generally available. And, if
I were shooting this in MF, I would consider Verichrome.

The newer films, t-max and tech pan, are more troublesome, as they require
more precise exposure, and achieve best results in special developers. I'm
completely without experience with the chromogenic b&w films.

So, what would I do? Either Plus-X or some of my stash of frozen APX25.
