Use a wide angle lens and set it to hyperfocal at a relative small aperture,
like F8. So you preset the aperture at F8, then set the infinity mark of the
focusing ring opposite to the '8' on the metal ring of the lens bayonet. Now
don't touch the aperture ring or focusing ring any further.

Set the camera to auto exposure, quickly look through the viewfinder to
frame, then shoot. Ignore the info the eyes send to your brain that the
image on the focusing screen isn't in focus. Because of the small aperture
and the hyperfocal setting everything from relatively close to infinity is
sharp.

With a 35mm lens, this shortest distance will typically be from about 1.5
meter, with a true (super) wide angle it will even be less than 1 meter. The
same trick is used by fixed focus P&S cameras.
