When I use the BG2 without a winder it is put on the left side of the
camera, on the side of the rewind lever. I then have to focus and shoot
with my right hand - different from what I usually do but quite workable.

Couldn't say that I would recommend using
it without a winder or drive -- I hooked it up to a plain body and couldn't
find a convenient way to reach the shutter.
