Hi,

I did a little more research on the Danubia brand. Here is what I found:

Danubia seems to be continued by the German manufacturer Dörr. There is a Dörr
8/500 lens (not catadioptric) on German E*ay right now:
http://cgi.ebay.de/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1268210933

It has a T2 apaptor mount.

I don't know the Dörr lenses, but a recent test of Pol-filters by the German
Fotomagazin recommended not to use the Dörr polarizers at all. Dörr otherwize
seems to have a poor reputation for their lenses.

On the other hand, Danubia/Dörr produces sighting systems for hunting (maybe
other?) rifles and night vision scopes. They seem to have some reputation in
this field.

Cheap, yes. But not priceworthy IMO. Some sellers regularly appear on the
German E*ay with a bunch of Exakta and other post GDR-lenses. They sell them as
new, so the price is still quite high for these lenses. Just open e*ay.de and
look for these lenses. I have never tried one of those, so all my comments on
them have some prejustice included. They might be fine, but thedifference in
the amount of items offered and the small number of lenses actually sold in
these actions should speak for themselves. People don't want them. The german
NG de.rec.fotografie often speaks about them as so-called "Russentonnen"
(Russian Barrels), implying the low value of these lenses compared to other
brand lenses. Some NG members, however, recommend them as a cheap alternative
to costly short telelenses with converters.

Please read my recent posting "Teleconverters". Adding several converters
definitely saves money and weigth and still delivers pretty good pictures. Only
disadvantage is the loss of light. So, for real telephotography, use an
appropiate long tele lens.

Best regards
