Definitely get yourself a set of fresh batteries (357 or SR44 - just make
sure they are silver oxides, not alkalines or lithiums, and that they are
fresh!). Just because the batteries you are using have enough oomph to
power your OM-10 doesn't necessarily mean they are adequate for the
OM-2SP.

The self timer being apparently damaged could also be a culprit,
especially if there is a short or something.
