I guess I've focused on the photography tonight as a way to try to blot this
all out. I, as everyone, have been overwhelmed by the tragedy of it all.
Like Skip, we've had to explain to our daughters (8 and 9) what happened and
why. They're a little confused by it all, never having been to NY. They're
still wondering why Soccer practice was cancelled, not about what happened.

I happened to be in a class today at IBM. I was one of only two people from
Austin in the class. The rest, including the instructor, had flown in.
Most of them are, of course, still in Austin. One group from the
Chicago/Milwaukee area set out in their rental car for home -- quite a
drive. The instructor and one of the students took another car and headed
off to Altanta, where the instructor's wife is about to have their fourth
child.

In the overall scheme of things, getting all these fellow students home was
pretty small, but it really made it all hit home for me.

I am also oddly affected in the my 'home office' within my company is
actually Boston. Our offices there closed immediately and I haven't been
able to reach any of my colleagues, even on their cell phone. I am certainly
hoping that none of them were on any of the planes. Since, because of the
economy, we are on fairly tight travel restrictions, I am hopeful that they
were not.

We tried to explain to the girls that for the rest of their lives they will
remember this day, but they're not really sure why. I will certainly
remember it -- the day the world turned upside down.

Tom
