Sounds a bit like my XA - it takes fine pics as long as I use 100 ASA film,
set the camera's ASA to 800 and ignore the shutter speed indicated in the
viewfinder. John H said it was probably due to the 2 CdS cells in the camera
being out of step with each other. The problem with mine occurred after
being left unused in a drawer for five or more years.
