K64 has been my film of choice for the past 15+ years, but something at
Kodak changed about 2 years ago. I started noticing a distinct cyan cast on
some of the rolls I got back (yes, I tried several batches of film, and the
colour cast seemed to occur randomly). At the same time the slides started
to look much harsher than expected. I don't know if the film or processing
changed, but something sure changed and K64 wasn't what it used to be. I
also started noticing the quality control dropping. I constantly got back
mismounted slides, scratches, and in one case my last frame was swapped with
someone elses first frame. On the recommendation of many people, I gave
Provia F a try. Wow, there's no comparision to today's Kodachrome, Provia F
runs circles around it. Today I've switch completely to Provia F and the few
rolls of K64 I still have are just sitting in the fridge. Besides being a
better film, there's less headaches with getting it processed, and processed
right!
