Hmm, I'd agree to an extent. The zuikos are better lenses than their
third party counterparts, so by paying more, you will get a better
lens. Question is whether the quality is worth the price. Currently
I'm a poor student so for me it's not. Maybe in a few years time I'll
feel different (once I've joined the bourgeois elite:))

Anyway, about long lenses - I own a Hanimex 500/8 reflex lens (T-mount,
as many of these mirror lenses are), and also a Vivitar 400/5.6
non-mirror. They cost me 45 and 54 pounds respectively - a fraction of
what the Zuiko equivalent would have cost. The 500/8 is light and
compact and very easy to carry, while the 400/5.6 has been christened
the Beast, as it weighs a few kilos. The mirror is reasonable quality
but the glass lens is much sharper, much more contrasty and generally
optically superior. I'm glad I've got them both, though, as I wouldn't
want to take the Beast some places I take the Cat (so called as it's a
catadioptric lens)

Compared to the Zuikos these lenses may be inferior, but they've given
me pleasing results. I've got some photos from them both coming back
soon - I'll scan them in and you can see for yourself.
