In years of OM (of one type or another) ownership, I've never known the
difference between the OM 1 and OM 1n, and the OM 2 and OM 2n.

I'm sure someone on the list can tell me.

There are actually an M-1, OM-1, OM-1MD, and OM-1n. There are also two variants of the opening curtain in the OM-2, the dot patterns on which change the meter center-weighting. See the FAQ here for details about the M1, OM-1, OM-1MD, OM-1n, OM-2 and OM-2n (B6 through B9 and B24):

In addition to what's mentioned there, the M-1, OM-1 and OM-2 were originally made to use the Quick Auto 300 and 310 flashes. Major difference between the two: 310 supports TTL-Auto for the OM-2 and the 300 does not. For these flash units, the [O]M-1 uses a Shoe 1 and OM-2 uses a Shoe 2. With the advent of the "T" series flash, the Shoe 3 was created for the OM-2 (Shoe 1 works with the "T" flashes). Both the OM-1n and OM-2n use the Shoe 4. More details about the shoes in both the eSIF and the faq cited above (see F1).
