Hi Tom,
the normal lens and the 70-250 seem to focus ok, fine in the split image on
trees in the distance at 250mm. It really seems to be a problem of the lens.

Do other fast/long lenses on the same body focus at infinity
correctly?

Are fotos taken at nominal infinity unsharp?

The problem may be a mispositioning of the mirror or focus screen in
the body, and affecting all shots.
