I won't list the virtues of the various lenses, except to say that the 3.4-4.5 should be your primary choice after the 3.6.

The question that I ask after reading your post is: Why don't you use the 35-70/3.6?

1. Size/weight? Then the F3.5-4.5 will certainly live on a camera, as it's very small. There's not much weight difference between the F4 and F3.6.

2. Image quality? Except for the 35-80/2.8, the F3.6 is the best. The F3.5-4.5 won't measure up to the F3.6.

The build quality on the F3.5-4.5 is IMO better than the F4 or F3.5-4.8 too, but not up to the F3.6.

Make sure you realize that the F3.5-4.5's front element turns with use, unlike the F3.6. So polarizers are a pain-in-the-ass with the little lens. Also, the F3.5-4.5 a variable aperture lens, so if you use manual metering cameras, watch out.

Hey all

I have the 35-70 3.6 zoom, which I really do not use all that much.
I was thinking of getting the f4 to replace it from a local shop and pocket
the change from selling thr 3.6. I know there are also 3.5-4.5 and 3.5-4.8
zooms. Does anyone know of the quality of the non-3.6 zooms or what I
should think about doing?

Thanks in advance....

-Bill
