I bought a lens on Ebay from negresco (OM content: an Oly 50mm 1.4) that was
specifically described as "no scratches on glass". When it arrived it had a
1/4" gash in the middle of the front element. I'm not talking
about a coating mark, I'm talking about an in-the-glass scratch. I checked the
auction again, and the picture actually showed the gash (so shame on me for
trusting the description and not questioning the pic).
Stay far away.
