IN photographic optics the Circle of Confusion refers to the size on a
negative which a theoretical point (zero size in a perfectly focussed
image) would occupy. In effect the larger the number which is considered
acceptable for an application, the greater the apparent DOF (depth of
field) for a given aperture (and resolution quality).
