Bean bag is a good idea ! Some people use lead shot bags which are nice and
compact. Hollywood Props stores sell them as well as black nylon cordura sand
bags (I got one for $12)

I attached a large "Bungee" cord to the big black sandbag and it serves
me well to dampen vibrations as well as hold the Tripod firmly to the ground.

A motor drive or winder is also good because it increases the mass of the
camera/lens combo. I had a motor drive with a dead battery on my OM2S braced
against a massive pier piling when I took my Green Flash
photos http://flzhgn.home.mindspring.com/grnray.htm
I've improved the scans on this so you can see it was rock solid even
with a 500 mm mirror lens that I used.

Hans Van Leewen ( The OM SIF guy) explains how to use hands very well.

I use a cable release with an OM1 with the mirror locked up on a MP4
Polaroid Copy stand and a 50 mm macro lens and Tech Pan film or on a
microscope.

Hanging a bean bag or Lead shot bag over the lens might help, also.
