you are giving good advise when you suggest an Olympus om camera ?

Considering market forces at work I'd say the film emulsion side of this
hobby's days are numbered no matter what system you buy into.
An OM-1n and a couple/three primes strikes me as an excellent first step to
serious photography. This is just what I provided my daughter summer, and I
didn't do it because I own stock in Olympus but to help her realize good
pictures.
