Why not just use it 'til it DOES die? Carry two bodies, each loaded with
different film types (fast, slow, color, b&w, print, slide, etc.)? Have at
least two 50/1.8s, or whatever your favorite lens is (O.K., two 1000mm Zuikos
would be a little spendy, but you know what I mean). That way, if one body
or lens "dies", or needs to go to the hospital, you're still up and shooting.

Ever stand at a service counter (pick the appliance: cameras, computers, tvs,
whatever) and see the frustration of a customer who just bought the newest,
latest, loaded-with-bells-and-whistles marvel, but hasn't seen it more than 3
days out of the first three months of ownership, because of serviceability
issues? It's not a pretty sight. OM system has proven itself, all over the
world, in some of the most trying circumstances. Going to AF plastic is
going backwards IMHO.

I'm sure as heck not going to replace ANY of my OM gear this year because it
is going to fail SOMEDAY. Someday, my pickup will wear out, my tv will go
black, my toaster will fail. My hair has already gone, but, .... oh, don't
get me started.
