Unfortunately there's a limit to how many MPix you *need* to put in a given area, as visible light can only carry so much information per area, even with perfect lenses. Allowing for non-perfect lenses, I'd say we're already close to this limit (N***n D1X with 5,5M rectangular pixels, or 10M interpolated square pixels.). I wouldn't hope for much more than 20MPix from a digital camera, unless sensor area is increased beyond 24x36mm ("digital medium format"). I seriously doubt this would catch on amongst consumers who now fall in love with smaller and smaller cameras, and never print larger than 20x30cm anyway.
