Hi John,
I was sort of pleased and sort of disappointed to learn from the archive that your professional solution to 'foam eaten' prisms is the same as my amateur solution. As you say, really careful, through cleaning off of the damaged area works pretty well without resilvering. The angle of reflection and index of refraction seem to be such that, instead of seeing the inside of the top cover, you see a very slightly dimmer image from the lens.

You've also said that Oly ran out of new prisms a long time ago. My questions is whether they used the same prisms in other cameras. I've heard the OM-xn prisms are different that M/OM-1, but haven't torn down an OM-1n to see for sure. I also saw someone claim that OMG/20 prisms fit OM-1s. I these or others in the 'amateur' line are compatable, does the different top cover design mean no foam to eat the coating?

Any enlightenment on prism compatability?

Thanks,
  Moose
