Pentax Optio 430.

OK, a camera I had not considered at all.

The reason was quite simple. Size.

The whole point was a camera that was smaller and lighter than the E-20. The
Pentax is the closest thing to an XA, in fact smaller.

Here's the size specs:

Canon G2 - 4.8 x 3.0 x 2.5 in - 15 oz.
Nikon 5000 - 4.0" x 3.2" x 2.6" - 12.6 oz (w/o battery)
Pentax 430 - 3.6" (W) x 2.3" (H) x 1.4 - 8.5oz. (with battery)

The difference is hard to even explain without seeing them. An inch in
every dimension. The G2 and 5000 were quite large -- almost as large as an
OM body. The Pentax is the size of a pack of cigarettes. Literally.

The specs are 'lighter', but not bad.

4 megapixels
ISO 100/200 (I would have liked 400, but...)
CompactFlash
37.5mm-112.5mm zoom (35mm equivalent)
f/2.6-4.8 (slow, but a compromise)

My goal was quite narrow-minded. A camera I would always carry.

This qualifies :)

Pics to follow.

Tom
