There are several different types of asa knobs. Earliest ones, the black
spot in the center of the asa plate is part of the knob and won't come off,
others the asa plate and the black part are separate, glued together, then
the assembly is glued to the open top of the knob.  If you can get under the
edge of the asa plate with an exacto #11 blade, you might be able to pry it
up, that is, if the person who put it back in the wrong position didn't glue
it with epoxy or some other kind of overkill liquid.  Otherwise, the top has
to come off to pop the plate off from the inside.
