the 50mm f1.8 I had was sooo much sharper than the f1.4. Maybe it was the
1.4 I had was a lemon. My brother's 1.4 seemed iffy to me also, but he liked
the results from it. I recall a guy buying a MF Pent*x 50mm from my local
camera store sent back 6 lenses before he would accept the 7th one he tried.
The owner, who I know well, used to pander to those of us who spent big in
his place. I suppose its been discussed here but it seems that not all
lenses of the same model are identical in the quality of the image they
produce!
