Hi Chris,
Advantages: battery compartment takes C cells. A lot more flashes. They
take over from the flash-unit batteries when plugged in via the 3-hole socket.
With alkaline batteries, re-cycle time 0.2 to 8 sec, AA batteries 0.2 to 12
sec. number of flashes; AA Alk, 100 - 400; C alk 250 - 1000+
High flashpoint; less red-eye when doing people fill-flash.
Since you can swivel the base under the camera, as well as the tilting head,
it can be used to bounce to the side as well as up & down. I did just that in
the last 2 weeks.
Makes a great camera carry-handle <g>
Bounce-grip (BG1) is for Quick Auto 310 and possibly the rarer QA 300. QA
310's are available still but you must make sure NEVER to use NICAD
batteries in them or you fry the circuit. No fix to that one.
The little sync-cord links the camera with the flash to fire it. You can also
use a 3-pronged cord from the camera hot-shoe to the flash.
THere is a great 'non-slip' pin on the top of the BG which means you won't
have the flash fall off.
You can also fix the remote sensor on the camera and hook it up to the flash.
I paid $NZ80 for a BG1 here three years ago at Nuttalls 2nd hand dealers
and thought that was an OK price; bargain even. B&H in NY have had them
2nd hand for $US 90 - 100 within the last 6 months.
If the owner doesn't know much about it, you might get it at a very good
price. You could also point out that "there are not many QA 310 flashes
around now". <g>
