I've taken a few pics at the local malls around me.
(Livingston NJ and Rochester NY) provided you are
unobtrusive and not hassling anybody they let you go.
Heck they even welcome pics of their Christams
decorations and such. Sometimes its not so much where
but when you are taking your pictures. I mean if I
walked in in mid March or something and the mall was
bare of decorations I would probably get hassled by
security. At Christmas /Halloween /Thanksgiving etc
though they dont really care. I've gotten a few good
street pics that way but I'm not really into that sort
of photography so I don't do it that often.

The way I see it in situations like that you can go
two ways. One way is like Ken N. act like a pro and
put up an aura of untouchability. The other is to be
very low key, take pics while shopping and such. If
you are carrying around a couple of the store bags you
can get away with a lot more than if you just went in
and went out with the camera. Anyway all this is just
my experience with 2 malls that may or may not be
typical.
