I would never use a flash for jewelry photos. Lighting on gem stones is
beautiful but tricky. Get some constant light sources so you can see the
reflections and shadows before you take the picture.
And you will definitely need to compensate for the black background as many
have suggested. /jnm

Don't really know what the objective is, but I have used my flatbed scanner
to do great jewellery 'photography'...
(For me, it was for recording info for insurance purposes, so maybe you'd
better put the OM4 on the flatbed in case she 'purloins" it again!)
