One of my clients (a school) just bought the "academic version". It's
available in many school bookstores. Requires only a student or faculty ID
to purchase and is one-half the cost of the retail version.
Differences from retail? Um.... the box says "Academic Use Only".

I know that at least Photoshop is available to students (a student version
of it) through their schools at a greatly reduced cost. Might not be the
full blown version, but the price difference is staggering.
