Ah, lots of things to try. I had a quick attempt at scanning negatives
directly (bottom of the lid is white, so it seemed worth a go at least), but
it got nowhere -- no contrast at all. I'm probably going to be picking up a
cheap used lightbox, so that'll give me more options as well.
