Am I becoming the kind of guy who wears both belt and suspenders?
Yesterday, I ordered from KEH a "BGN" T Power Control 1 and T10
Ring Flash for what I thought was a fair price: $200. The thing
is, I really don't have any use right now for either one of them;
I just felt a need to have another T Power Control 1. I've got
the T28 Macro Twin Flash, the T8 Ring Flash 2 and a perfectly good
T Power Control 1.
But my paranoia, if that's what it is, is being fueled by recent
discussions here of problems with flash equipment, coupled with
Olympus pulling the plug and the OM line now circling the drain.
If my T1 crapped out a few years hence, I'd be paddle-less up that
well-known creek, because the T28 and T8 would be the proverbial
screen doors on the submarine until I could either get it fixed,
assuming it could be fixed, or find another one in a world of ever-
diminishing supply.
It's the same distrust of things electronic that caused me a few
months ago to grab, for a very reasonable price (I forget now
exactly how much), a second T45. Of course, now that I've
collected the necessary cords and connectors, I have plans to use
the two together this summer in a nighttime wildlife photography
project. But that's a whole 'nother story.
I don't have this same urge toward redundancy with regard to
bodies and lenses, even OM-4s with all their electronic innards.
And I've never had any flash equipment die, other than battery
packs. I've even got a half dozen 30-something-year-old Spiratone
mini-strobes that still work. I think they were $8 apiece when I
bought them long, long ago.
Am I alone in my paranoia? Is this just the latter stages of
Zuikoholism? Do I need a life? I think prices on the Bay have
jumped up a bit of late, so there just may be others of my ilk out
there. Or is everybody just trying to keep me from getting more
stuff that I really, really need? I bet that's what it is, and
I'm going to be keeping an eye on you all.
