[OM] Velvia..

I suppose I should really run an in-camera test of my own, but from what I
see in magazines, Velvia is not for me. Only yesterday I picked up the April
"Outdoor Photography", and in there are some shots of Highland cattle. One
of them is BRIGHT RED. The guy who took the shot is a very good
photographer, this is a glossy, well-produced mag. The shot is hellish.
There is a shot on the opposite page showing a young calf, taken on K64,
that is at least the same colour as a Highland cow.

Throughout the magazines, I can always spot the Velvia shots. The colours
are not the colours I see. Of course, YMMV.

Velvia's colour always reminds me of the adverts Kodak ran years ago for
their improved colour print films; people daubing bright colours all over
themselves to get more colourful holiday snaps.

Velvia has good grain and is at least quite slow; in the right hands it
might even produce authentic colour. But when people like Andy Rouse and
Laurie Campbell are producing hideous, oversaturated (IMHO) shots, I am
happy to stick with Kodachrome.

Donald.
