A common problem with the XA2 is the total deterioration and crumbling of
the inner half of the sprocket gear, and you won't know it until you take
the gear out.  If the magnet is oily (never saw that before) it will lock
the camera up.

You can release the shutter with the lever on the bottom but it will only
lock up again unless the magnet cleaning is done (and there are 2 magnets,
it's not the magnet you can see when you take the cover off.)
