That may be, but one of the "knocks" on an otherwise exceptional value
in a DyeSub printer is that the printable area of the P-400 is only
7.5x10 so despite Olympus calling it an "8x10" printer, it isn't. The
only other "complaints" I have heard about the P-400 are lack of matte
paper (they are supposedly releasing some someday) and overheating
issues if one tries to get too much production out of them as if they
were a commercial grade printer like a Sony or Kodak (which in both
cases cost many times more $$$$). I guess part of what steered me away
(besides not wanting to sit around a paddock area printing when I really
need to be on course shooting) was the media costs which are at least
$1.50 per page, assuming no wastage. When I can get chemically processed
true 8x10s for $3.00 each and 11x14s for $5.00 each doing any printing
myself for anything except proofing became moot. For proofing my old
Epson Photo EX does a fine job and only cost me around $150.00 from
uBid.com a couple years ago now. I tend to send proofs out for free
anyway so I could care less if they fade, in fact I almost wish they
faded faster ;-)

The P-400 does produce beautiful prints that are very sellable though. I
still admire the job Olympus did in producing an 8x10 dye-sub printer at
the price point they did that offers the kind of results it does. It is
a great printer.
