Yeah, seems like something is wrong, bright sun with snow, asa 160, is
f8 at 1/1000 according to my Kodak Master Photo Guide.
Put the camera on B and look in the front of the lens to see if it is
stopping down. If the lens is new to you, there may be a problem.
Also, aside from lens troubles, a polarizer can both cut down on the
light and control glare from snow.
