We're all just speculating on the reason for the blacked out lettering. There isn't only one answer. I have a black OM-4T and I have the logo covered with electrical tape to make the camera look more like a no-name camera than one that is expensive. Some people are name-brand averse to an extreme.

I've also seen cameras in advertisements with blacked out names. It may have been done after the shot, but I'll bet that before the advent of digital processing many ad agencies had blacked out cameras hanging around to use a props.

The black out of lettering is to prevent reflection. For some
photography works such as flat copy it is better to have the tripod
and camera in black, otherwise you have to cover them carefully.
