Just started reading a new book - "Shutterbabe" it's called, and it's
written by a female photographer. Book starts with a story about her
adventures in Afghanistan in the late 80's and contains other stories about
photojournalism. Almost had to stop, though, since at around page 70 she
passes judgement on cameras and their users:

"..having a N*k*n F2, F3, FM2....signified technical proficiency with manual
cameras as well as a seriousness and commitment to
photojournalism....Olympus or Minolta owners, on the other hand, were
strictly second-tier - local photographers, beginners, maybe even amatuers."
(she swears by the L**c* M6)

Decided to keep reading since I'm (a) not a professional (b) not really
concerned what other people think about me & my gear!

Ah. Camera as a badge of belonging. I hope it was just an amusing observation of the pack behavior of pro photographers and not her judgment that the equipment represents the skill of the user. If so, such a shallow understanding of her own field would put any of her opinions in question. And where is Canon in the mix? Does she also provide advice on the "in" brand of camera bag and the most chic photo vest?

Sorry.
