I have the O55 as standard with my Manfrotto 141 and the levers get
in the way (and got bent on a Hercules on the way to Turkey in Feb
2000). So I bought a 352RC Midi ballhead and it is great. It uses
the same quick-release plate as the 055 and it is quite sturdy ...
and cheap1

What i'm currently looking at is either the Manfrotto 190 (which
seems short) or 055c (which looks heavy), with possibly a 222
joystick head (they're just so cool!).

My concern with the 222 head is that it's only rated for 2.5 kg; my
2n, with a 35-80 or 70-210 zoom, winder 2, t-32 and a flash bracket
is pretty heavy (worst case scenario). I'd like to stick with
Manfrotto because of the interchangeable heads, and with a ball
head, as they seem to be pretty quick and easy to use, and better
for portable use. Perhaps i should go with a somewhat larger ball
head (some of the lighter Manfrotto ones are rated for up to 4 kg)?

Does anyone have any suggestions, or better yet, any experience with
the 190, 055c or especially the 222?

Thanks,

Sean D.
