[OM] differences in f stops

Subject: [OM] differences in f stops

Hi Zuikos

I was taking some available light portraits earlier today, and noticed a
difference in f stops needed to centre the needle on my OM-1n.

I was switching between two lens, an Olympus 200mm f4 and a Tokina 135mm
f2.8. When I got home, I used a side lit wall that was even in colour and
texture and found that the 2 lens register 1 1/2 f difference for the same
framing of the wall (about what I experienced in the portrait shoot).

The results were:
Olympus 200mm needed halfway between f8 and f5.6, while the
Tokina 135mm needed f4 (no filters used on either lens for test)

For the technically minded:
Does this result from Tokina over rating their lens? I have noticed this
also in respect with my 28/2 Kiron though it is about 3/4 of an f stop
difference.

I have 3 Olympus lens in all 24/2.8, 35/2.8 and the 200/4. In my side wall
test all the Olympus registered the same f stop required. Comments and
opinions please

Many thanks

Ron Ashford
