The OM system seems to me to be every bit as durable as anything out
there that shoots film. On the subject of electronics and repairs, I can
weigh in some since in my non-photographic life I have about a quarter
century of consumer electronic repair experience now. The one and only
reason I no longer do consumer electronic repair full-time is that most
of what is sold now-a-days is not economical to repair. I moonlight in a
local shop and do okay on about 12-15 hours per month worth of workflow,
but that is only because I live in an area that has a high "recycle"
mentality--I often question the economics of may approved estimates
(i.e. "are they nuts?!" is my response to the shop owner).

NPS and CPS both do offer working pros some good loan/rent/quick-turn
repair programs and Olympus does serious fall short there. If/when
Olympus launches this much anticipated DSLR System the most important
thing they must do is have a strong pro services program, it is bad
enough they will have an all new proprietary lens mount (I have heard
many who won't even consider the new Sigma DSLR body for that reason).
AFAIK, the pro services repairs are far from free, they are just rushed
with liberal loaner possibilities when possible.

More and more we become a disposable society...durable goods ain't what
they used to be.
