Thanks for your kind note. The question is: What does the low power setting
mean in relation to the full power setting. If you know the f stop the full
power puts out at 10 ft, simple calculation will give you the stop at any
distance. Same is true for the low setting. Just guessing seems to like a
shot in the dark...useless. If you want a primer on this, contact me back
channel and I will supply the 3rd grade math that makes this calculation
possible:-)

Thank you Roger for the clarification. I suspect this thread may be
worth perpetuating since I still hope to better understand and it
applies equally to OMs and those new-fangled digital things some of us
now are using.
What I have been doing with the T-32 on the E-10 is to use the low power
setting, and use the spot (or center weighted averaging) meter in the
E-10 to determine exposure and set for 1/3 stop under. This seems to
work very well at modest distances (10-15 feet or less). What is nice
about the digital is you can do trial and error and see something right
away on the LCD display. Where I ran into trouble was with the T-32 at
full power (I'll try the full stop under like you suggested) without
doing much trial and error in advance and simply guessing (wrong much of
the time). My goal is to make this as brainless as possible (meaning if
I have to think about it, it needs to be kept simple) an automatic thing
my brain calculates on the fly if you will. I understand your point
about relying on Auto TTL and realize it is an iffy way to go as well.
What is amusing is that this is considered really close to impossible by
the digital/wunderbrick crowd, and I know it is not, and am doing it now
with some nice results (but not real consistent, yet). I just want to
gain a better understanding and take charge of it. I really appreciate
what I have learned here on this list in many areas and flash
photography is a glaring weakness of mine I must improve upon.
One last thing that dawned on me in playing with manual mode more on the
E-10, Ken was 100pot on in his explanation of the need for an analog
type display for manual metering. (Talking E-10/20 and IS series now.)
Even though it is really cool to see those little digital numbers
display exposure over/under in 1/3 stop increments, I would much prefer
a good ol' match needle system ala OM. I really find myself having to
think too much about exposure with those numbers flying about--I guess I
have to get used to it since that is a key part of mastering the tool at
hand though.
