Well the wide angle might be useful on the boat (picture of people on the
boat) or shore as you leave/approach the dock. However, you will need a
long lens for the whale. I'd guess somewhere between 250 and 450. I went
whale watching a year ago and about the best I can say is the longer the
better... (250 is really too short).
