I think perhaps some might find it interesting that people actually gathered to watch civil war battles as they took place. So people gathering to watch re-enactments does not seem so strange to me.

Could you imagine being a soldier at Gettysburg and looking up to a distant hilltop and seeing it crowded with women, children and old men watching???

Besides, how else could one be a an OM touting civil war combat photographer???

Um, Jim, maybe if you look at it as "living history" you might see it
differently.  I've been to a couple of Revolutionary War reenactments
and even though they may have some "entertainment" value, to realize the
when, how and why of these battles is a sobering experience.
