I've never had any problems with Agfa Scala or Tri-X with Kodak PhotoCD scans. OTOH, a dozen TMax 400 images have not scanned very well and I was rather disappointed. I believe it's some combination of scanning hardware, scanner driver software (if it does any image pre-processing), and any post-processing software (PhotoShop, etc.) that's being used.

BTW, the PhotoCD scan files are *all* color, even if the film is B&W and the scan looks B&W. First thing I do after reading the file from the CD is convert it to a true B&W digital image. This conversion loses *zero* information, but it does creates a much smaller file out of it and there's no worry about whether it's really gray-scale.
