Usually you will not have a very "dark" negative as compared to slide.
The density of the negative at highly area is not as high as slides as
shadow area. Scanner noise is usually not a problem for negative, many
good film scanner today can handle it well. On the other hand I found
the bit deep a bigger problem for negative as the D-range of negative
itself is very low, you need to "amplify" the range to get the real
display D-range.
